Course Objectives The course aims to provide students with: - an introduction to fuse and over current protection - an introduction to fundamental principles of distance relaying, differential protection - the role Current and Voltage transformers in power system protection - hands-on with SIPROTEC 5 relays and digsi 5 software for digital protection in power systems

Learning Outcomes After successful  completion of the course, the student will be able to:
  1. Explain the basic principles of fuse and over current protection and application
  2. Explain various schemes for line and transformer protection
  3. Implement protection plans for various network topologies
  4. Implement protection using software and digital relays (SIPROTEC platform)
  5. Prototype protection scenarios in the laboratory
Teaching Methods Class discussions with examples. Active tutorial sessions for engaged learning and continuous feedback on progress. Team assignments. Team projects that involve real data, summary, interpretation and reporting.
