Course Objectives • To provide students with a basic understanding of forces and force systems acting and equilibrium conditions for particle or rigid body. • To give students the ability to perform analysis of forces developed in structural members. • To perform structural analysis similar to those they will encounter in industry.
Textbook Engineering Mechanics – Statics, R.C. Hibbeler, 13th edition, recommended reading Statics and Strength of Materials, 1th edition, R.L. Mott
Learning Outcomes After successful  completion of the course, the student will be able to:
  1. Construct free-body diagrams and to calculate the reactions necessary to ensure static equilibrium.
  2. Analyze distributed loads.
  3. Analyze internal forces and moments in membranes.
  4. Conduct force analysis on structures.
  5. Calculate centroids and moments of inertia.
  6. Solve static equilibrium problems involving friction.
Teaching Methods Lecturing and class discussions with examples. Active tutorial sessions for engaged learning and continuous feedback on progress.
