Course Objectives The course aims are to introduce students to fundamentals of hotel design.
Textbook Lawson, B., How designers think. The design process demistyfied, Elsevier, 2006 (open source)
Learning Outcomes After successful  completion of the course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate knowledge of architecture of tourist facilities.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of architectural and urban context.
  3. Perform knowledge about appropriate approaches and methods of design.
  4. Demonstrate an ability to orginize the functional units inside of touristic facilities.
  5. Demonstrate an ability to recognize the main human needs.
Teaching Methods Class discussions with examples. Active tutorial sessions for engaged learning and continuous feedback on progress. Class debates on relevant case studies.

Week 3 Historic overview of the development of buildings for touristic purpose. Materials prov. for the lecture
Week 4 Typology of tourism and catering facilities. Main functional units of hotel structure. Materials prov. for the lecture
Week 5 Functional elements of the hotel building; entrance, staircases, corridors, rooms, etc. Materials prov. for the lecture
Week 6 Spatial requirements, dimensional standards in hotel design. Kitchen and restaurant. Materials prov. for the lecture
Week 7 Presentation of certain elements in conceptual design projects. Chapters 2 and 3
Week 8 Midterm exam.
Week 9 Midterm presentation.
Week 10 Analysis of referent examples of buildings for turism. Materials prov. for the lecture
Week 11 Fundamental spatial requirements, dimensional standards, structural systems - I. Materials prov. for the lecture
Week 12 Fundamental spatial requirements, dimensional standards, structural systems - II. Materials prov. for the lecture
