Course Objectives The course aims to introduce students to the sound system and pronunciation of English language. Students will learn about individual English sounds: consonants and vowels. They will apply the knowledge of English phonetics to their own English speaking and listening skills. In addition, the importance of phonetics for English language teaching will be discussed and analyzed. Students will be taught techniques which will help them develop their own approach to teaching English pronunciation.

Learning Outcomes After successful  completion of the course, the student will be able to:
  1. Define and describe English phonetic system and the relevant terminology of English phonetics;
  2. Demonstrate understanding of English phonetics and phonology;
  3. Apply proper pronunciation of English sounds: consonants and vowels;
  4. Apply different theories of English phonetics in the teaching process;
  5. Design English exercise with special focus on phonetics of speech and listening.
Teaching Methods Weekly lectures, quizzes, in class discussions, exams, presentation/speech, project (3 hours per week).
