Course Objectives This is a required course designed to expose students with the key concepts, debates and issues of social socurity law, from a comparative legal perspective, complemented with instructional materials from Bosnia and Herzegovina. This course comprises the following interrelated parts: nature, sources, scope of application of social security law; economic and comparative analyses on the intersections of social security and tort law, as well as social risks such as old age, decease, unemployment, health care, incapacity for work, family burden, care and need. Finally, financing social security, judicial protection and enforcement of social security law will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes After successful  completion of the course, the student will be able to:
  1. Differentiate the terms used for Social Security Law and insurance, concept of social security and sources of social security law
  2. Demonstrate knowledge on administering social security and personal scope of application, as well as social risks and benefits
  3. Analyze social risks such as old age, decease, unemployment, health care, incapacity for work, family burden, care and need
  4. Organize the residual knowledge gained on various aspects such as financing social security, judicial protection and enforcement
  5. Critique the positive legislation on social security law with views of its improvement in each of its aspects
Teaching Methods The course will be delivered through multiple lectures, class discussions, video material analysis and at least one excursion trip.
