Course Objectives The course offers students advanced study of translation in both theory and practice. Students will learn terminology, concepts, skills, approaches and techniques of translation studies. They will practice translating texts from Bosnian into English and vice versa from a variety of genres at advanced level and use different translation resources. The course will also introduce students to the foundations of interpreting. Different types of interpretation will be discussed and practiced: chuchotage, consecutive interpreting, and simultaneous interpreting.
Textbook 1. Jeremy Munday_Introducing Translation Studies_ Theories and Applications (2016, Routledge); 2. Mona Baker_In Other Words_Coursebook (2001, Routledge); 3. A selection of texts, articles, book chapters in Bosnian and English.
Learning Outcomes After successful  completion of the course, the student will be able to:
  1. Understand and apply advanced terminology and concepts of translation studies;
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of translation techniques and use different translation resources;
  3. Translate different texts from Bosnian to English and vice versa;
  4. Identify common errors and pitfalls in translation and interpretation and learn how to avoid them;
  5. Demonstrate main interpreting skills: chuchotage, consecutive and simultaneous interpreting.
