Course Objectives

The purpose and the goal of the course is to provide students with an overview of applicable laws and regulations on a business. Throughout the course, the students will be introduced to legal institutes pertaining to the establishment of partnerships and commercial companies, the basic regulatory framework of managing a business, basic concepts of negotiations, drafting and conclusion of contracts, and the closure of a business. Whereas the readings for the classes are to provide a comparative approach by introducing legal rules from different jurisdictions, the tutorials are to be conducted in a practical manner, by providing the students with an opportunity to test their theoretical understandings.

Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

Remember the basic concepts of contract law, in particular sales agreements;

Understand what is the basic regulatory framework for each business, with a special emphasis on consumer protection and competition law;

Apply the basic concepts of contract negotiation and contract drafting, with special emphasis on sales contracts, service and licence agreements;
4
Analyze how business decisions are made in relation to employment, investment, commercial aspects of business, and choosing the dispute resolution mechanism;
5
Evaluate different types of companies, and learn how to choose the appropriate one for their business.
