Course Objectives Students will be informed about genetic and morphological classification of languages, structure of Turkish Language as agglutinative language in comparation with inflective and tonal languages; acquire knowledge of basic linguistic terms and definitons, acoustic, articulatory and auditory phonetics, segmental and suprasegmental phonology, alphabet of Ottoman and modern Turkish, structure of Turkish syllable, sound propperities of Turkish, sound propperities not found in Turkish words, vowel harmony, sound events of Turkish.

Learning Outcomes After successful  completion of the course, the student will be able to:
  1. Understand basics of structure of the Turkish language (agglutination)
  2. Recognize the distinctive features of phonemes in Turkish, alphabet of Ottoman and modern Turkish
  3. Comprehand prosodic features of Turkish language
  4. Learn sound propperities of Turkish and sound propperities not found in Turkish words
  5. Acquire and apply knowledge about vowel harmony and other sound events in Turkish
